New Austrian Architecture
by Itinerant Office

‘New Austrian Architecture’ is an itinerant exhibition that casts light on six emerging Austrian architects, each of them introducing representative projects, ideas and speculations on the theme of Responsibility. Designed by Itinerant Office, it was on display for two weeks in the hall of the Forum Austriaco di Cultura in Rome. During 2023, 2024, and 2025, the exhibition will be travelling around the globe.

It includes the works of Breathe Earth Collective (Graz), Juergen Strohmayer (Accra, Vienna), materialnomaden (Vienna), Some Place Studio (Vienna, Berlin), Studio Jakob Sellaoui (Vienna), and TAB (Vienna), providing solutions to very urgent matters at the global scale.

CO2 reduction, gender equality, a more responsible use of natural resources, new forms of living, clean energy production, public participation, solidarity, are among the keywords that embody the projects selected in the exhibition.

The selected projects vary in scale: theoretical research and speculation, installations, buildings, and design objects.

The concept of responsibility was also addressed by Itinerant Office from the point of view of the design of the exhibition, designed to be easy to transport, therefore reusable over time, and entirely made of wood. The exhibition consists of three boxes (1,60x 0,80x0,40m) and six trestles.

Each box hosts the installations of two offices, each trestle features the work of one practice, presenting a selection of 12 projects through images, architectural plans, models, and schemes. All elements can be stored on a single pallet with standard dimensions, facilitating and minimising transport costs and impact on the environment.
